As its name suggests, this is a small butterfly and has been recorded in low numbers on the reserve throughout the year from May to September. The forewings are orange/gold in colour with small brown spots and a brown border. The upper hindwing is brown with a broad sub-marginal orange band. Flowery banks are favoured areas of the adults whilst the larvae feed mainly on dock and sorrel.
